It is a rugged, sinuous gorge with numerous short tributary canyons that drain westward toward Muddy Creek. Pour offs, abrupt changes in the gradient of the canyon floor are characteristic of the area. The Maguire daisy and Wright fishhook cactus are listed as endangered and may be found within or near the WSA. Two threatened plant species, Jones cycladenia and Last Chance townsendia may also occur in the WSA.
