American Falls Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Idaho, offering approximately 8,000 acres of water surface. The City of American Falls manages the Willow Bay Recreation Area , one of the most popular family‑oriented recreation sites on the reservoir. This area includes public beaches, playgrounds, picnic areas, pedestrian trails, and a ball field. The Willow Bay Resort Campground and Marina features a tackle shop and a full‑service marina offering both motorized and non‑motorized boat rentals, including kayaks and paddleboats. The campground provides full hook‑up sites as well as dry camping options. Sportsman's Park , managed by Bingham County, is a multi‑use recreation area with both developed and dispersed recreation opportunities. Facilities support a variety of overnight camping and day‑use activities. The park includes two playgrounds, three restrooms, horseshoe pits, and volleyball courts. There are 16 RV sites with hookups, 10 additional RV sites without hookups, and numerous tent camping locations. The park is popular among local residents, and participation in the annual fishing derby has steadily increased in recent years. Dispersed recreation opportunities include waterfowl hunting and ice fishing. A 24‑mile paved hiking and bicycling trail winds around the reservoir, with gazebos offering scenic viewpoints. Power County operates the American Falls Reservoir West Ramp, a free public boat launch. While facilities are minimal, two sheltered picnic sites provide expansive reservoir views. The county also administers the Seagull Bay Yacht Club. The area offers RV and tent camping, a boat launch, showers, and a dump station. Due to seasonal water level fluctuations, the recreation season in the cove typically spans only a few months. The yacht club maintains a welcoming atmosphere and hosts several public events annually, with fees varying based on membership status. It is considered a safe harbor on the reservoir. Reclamation’s partners collectively provide a hometown, community‑focused recreation experience for visitors. The reservoir hosts several fishing tournaments and community events each year. Dispersed recreation opportunities include fishing, hunting, bird watching, and primitive camping. The nearby Sterling Wildlife Management Area is particularly popular for ring‑necked pheasant and waterfowl hunting, as well as high‑quality wildlife viewing.
